Icons of the 1940s

I'm back with the third installment of my Icons series. This time I'm focusing on the 1940s. The decade was all about glamour. Movie stars such as Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall and Ava Gardner were extremely popular fashion icons. Pin-up girls became all the rage. Gloves, hats and scarves were in style and a woman didn't complete her outfit with out one or all accessories. However not everything was glamorous, Until 1945 WWII was going on. During this time women took over mens jobs. The custom uniform for a woman was either overalls or trousers and  a cap, snood or scarf for head wear. Also shortages were around and not everything luxurious was available as those items were being shipped overseas to the men at war. Women had to be creative on items such as stockings and make-up. Here are a few women I consider 1940s icons.

Rita Hayworth

Lauren Bacall

Ava Gardner

Veronica Lake

Hedy Lamarr

Esther Williams

So that pretty much completes my list. Is there someone I forgot but you think is an icon? Tell me in the comments below.

Until Next Time,
Ashley A.
