Icons of the 1970s
I decided I would finish my Icons series this month, ending with the 1970s. So let's get started! In the early 1970s the bohemian, hippie look was still popular. Many women adapted to Glam Style where women began looking to past decades for fashion inspiration. Turbans were a popular accessory, as were clogs, cloche hats and chunky heels. Hot pants were invented in this era and usually worn with a tight fitting shirt. Diane Von Furstenburg invented the wrap dress in 1972 which flattered every body type and could be worn to work or out. As the mid 1970s began the hippie look was fading away. Active wear for women came around in 1975 and was popular until the 1980s. The late 1970s saw a lot of change in fashion. The rise of punk meant fashion like leather jackets, ripped jeans, safety pins and Doc Martens were popular.
