Original and Remake: A Star Is Born

I've decided for the next few months or so (depending on how many of these I choose to make) I'm going to be making posts on original films and their remakes. I'm starting off with A Star is Born.
There are 3 films from this and supposdly another remake is on the way starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. In my opinion while Lady Gaga can sing I just don't see why this film needs to be made for a 4th time. Anyway let's get stared.

A Star is Born (1937)
Starring: Janet Gaynor, Fredric March, Adolphe Menjou
Driected By: William A. Wellman
This is the original version and is not a musical.
Also this film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards but won only 1 for Original Story.

A Star is Born (1954)
Starring: Judy Garland, James Mason, Jack Carson
Directed By: George Cukor
*The second version, a musical, the best known number is The Man That Got Away.
Also, this film was nominated for 6 Academy Awards and won none.

A Star is Born (1976)
Starring: Barbara Streisand, Kris Krisofferson, Gary Busey
Directed By: Frank Pierson
*The third version, again a musical, this time it's set in the music world instead of the Hollywood setting like the previous two films.
Also this film was nominated for 4 Academy Awards and won 1 for Original Song.

If you're going to watch one of these films I suggest the 1954 version, and be sure to watch the restored version with all deleted scenes. The 1937 version isn't bad and Janet Gayor has her moments but the second version is the best. You can probably tell the 1976 version is not my favorite. Obviously Barbara Streisand can sing but the whole movie was just meh to me. I mean if  you're a Streisand fan you should check it out, but if you're only looking for one to check out then it's the 1954 verson.

Until Next Time,
Ashley A.
