A Tribute To Mary Tyler Moore
Ever since the news broke last month on Mary's passing I knew I wanted to do a tribute to her. There have been a lot of recent celebrity deaths and they have all been sad but because I am such a big fan of Mary's it's been the hardest for me. I've watched specials on her and read stories from those who knew her and how much she was loved. I know I'm way down on the list of fans but I still wanted to share a tribute about her. Mary means a lot to me, especially since I am a woman who is single and in her 30s. As Mary Richards she broke glass cellings, was able to hold her own in an all male dominated office and show that you could be single and be happy. In fact The Mary Tyler Moore Show was the first TV show to show feminism and touch on controversial topics such as equal pay and birth control. This show gave a lot of hope to women in the 1970s and honestly I believe it's just as relatable to today's standards. We are still having conversations on equal pay and birth control. As Mary Tyler Moore she pretty much paved the way for women in comedy. She became an advocate for Juvenile Diabetes and animal rights. She bravely shared her battle with alcoholism. She shared the pain of losing her only child, son Ritchie, to an accidential gun shot. Yet, throught it all she was able to smile, laugh and even say she had, had a good life. Mary has been and will continue to be (with newer generations discovering her) a trailblazer for all women everywhere. She was a remarkable woman and because of her we all will make it after all. Thank you Mary for everything.
These were charities Mary supported.
Until Next Time,
Ashley A.
