Icons of the 1950s

Last month was all about holiday themed posts so I didn't do any of my Icons series. Since the holidays are over I'm back to my regular posting. This time I'm focusing on the 1950s. The decade was still all about glamour but this time the housewife was becoming popular. Sure housewives had been around for decades but the 1950s initialized The All American Dream where families lived in houses with white picket fences, men went off to work and women were stay at home housewives and mothers. However they didn't dress drab, many women wore dresses with heels and pearls- a la Donna Reed. Not not all women dressed like this especially teenagers. Pants became narrower and worn ankle length. Pedal pushers were extremely popular. Bermuda shorts made their debut in 1954. A little something called the bikini showed up in America in the 1950s. Poodle skirts and oxford shoes were very popular with teenage girls as the sock hop and rock and roll became a 1950s standard. As for beauty, short cropped hairstyles were worn in the early 1950s. Red lipstick was still a beauty staple and with icons like Audrey Hepburn full eyebrows became popular.
