Since we're in December I thought I'd make another holiday themed original and remake. This time it's the 1940 film, T he Shop Around the Corner . There are 2 remakes of this and it is based on the Hungarian play Parfumerie. The Shop Around the Corner (1940) Directed By: Ernst Lubitsch Starring: James Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, Frank Morgan Running Time: 99 Minutes In the Good Old Summertime (1949) Directed By: Robert Z. Leonard and Buster Keaton (uncredited) Starring: Judy Garland, Van Johnson, Buster Keaton Running Time: 102 Minutes You've Got Mail (1998) Directed By: Nora Ephron Starring: Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Greg Kinnear Running Time: 119 Minutes So again, I'm completely biased as a fan of both Judy Garland and Buster Keaton and because I love musicals, so my pick is the 1949 version. That being said the other two films are fun to watch. All the movie couples have chemistry, the supporting cast in all thr...
It's been a long time since I have made an Icons post, the last one was in January and I was planning on doing posts for the next two decades and for some reason decided to go with other posts. Anyway I'm back to posting this series and today is all about the 1960s. I must confess the 1960s is my favorite decade for fashion, I love the polished look at the beginning of the decade and also equally love the bohemian look in the later part of the decade. As the Bob Dylan said The Times They Are A Changin. The 1960s were all about change including fashion and beauty. While the housewife was still going strong, women began to see they could have other options including working and going about the single life. At the beginning of the decade fashion was still pretty polished women like Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn were incredibly fashionable. Jeans became a popular staple for women to wear, they came in all kinds of styles including narrow, wide and above the ankle. In 1964...
I'm back with another installment of Fashion Through Film, this time with Les Parapluies de Cherbourg ( The Umbrellas of Cherbourg ). This is one of my favorite fashion films as I really love Genevieve's wardrobe and it's actually something I'd wear in real life. Anyway without further ado let's begin. When we first meet Genevieve we find her working in her mother's umbrella shop. Her outfit almost resembles a school uniform here with the plaid skirt and white blouse. Later we find Genevieve on a date with her boyfriend, Guy. As you can see she's dressed in a pink coat. A white clutch and yellow hair ribbon complete her look. Guy isn't dressed too shabby either in his pinstripe suit and trench. Ah we get to a sad part in the film. Guy has told Genevieve he's been drafted in the Algerian War. After spending the night together she sees him to the train station. Even as her love departs she's dressed well in a...
