Icons of the 1970s

Image
I decided I would finish my Icons series this month, ending with the 1970s. So let's get started! In the early 1970s the bohemian, hippie look was still popular. Many women adapted to Glam Style where women began looking to past decades for fashion inspiration. Turbans were a popular accessory, as were clogs, cloche hats and chunky heels. Hot pants were invented in this era and usually worn with a tight fitting shirt. Diane Von Furstenburg invented the wrap dress in 1972 which flattered every body type and could be worn to work or out. As the mid 1970s began the hippie look was fading away. Active wear for women came around in 1975 and was popular until the 1980s. The late 1970s saw a lot of change in fashion. The rise of punk meant fashion like leather jackets, ripped jeans, safety pins and Doc Martens were popular. If you weren't into punk you probably were into Disco and spent nights in tube tops and spandex pants dancing all night. As for beauty the hairstyle parted in th...

September is International Women's Friendship Month and in honor of that I decided to post my favorite fictional TV friendships. Also, I'll be honest with you I don't watch I Love Lucy or Laverne and Shirley which I know have popular friendships. Anyways here are my picks. Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) and Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) of The Mary Tyler Moore Show Kelly Garrett (Jaclyn Smith), Jill Munroe (Farrah Fawcett) and Sabrina Duncan (Kate Jackson) of  Charlie's Angels Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty), Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), Rose Nylund (Betty White) and Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) of The Golden Girls Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) of Sex and the City ...

Icons of the 1960s

Image
It's been a long time since I have made an Icons post, the last one was in January and I was planning on doing posts for the next two decades and for some reason decided to go with other posts. Anyway I'm back to posting this series and today is all about the 1960s. I must confess the 1960s is my favorite decade for fashion, I love the polished look at the beginning of the decade and also equally love the bohemian look in the later part of the decade. As the Bob Dylan said The Times They Are A Changin. The 1960s were all about change including fashion and beauty. While the housewife was still going strong, women began to see they could have other options including working and going about the single life. At the beginning of the decade fashion was still pretty polished women like Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn were incredibly fashionable. Jeans became a popular staple for women to wear, they came in all kinds of styles including narrow, wide and above the ankle. In 1964...
